Capri Rogers, 37, is headed to federal prison for more than seven years after terrorizing two women with a loaded handgun in Sioux City, Iowa, on July 4, 2025. Rogers, originally from Alexandria, Virginia, already had a rap sheet a mile long when he allegedly approached the cyclists and made threats with the weapon.
Sioux City PD responded to the harassment call and found Rogers fleeing the scene, ditching the firearm in the street as he ran. The gun clattered to the pavement within feet of a child. A quick search revealed a history—a long history—of violent offenses. The feds took over, and Rogers eventually pleaded guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm on October 1, 2025.
This wasn’t Rogers’ first rodeo. Court documents revealed two prior convictions for the same charge in 2022. But the details surrounding those convictions were especially disturbing. Rogers reportedly used a firearm to abuse a live-in girlfriend during that period, behavior Judge Leonard T. Strand called “sadistic” during sentencing.
Yesterday in Sioux City, Strand handed down a 90-month sentence (7.5 years), followed by three years of supervised release. No parole. Rogers is currently in the custody of the U.S. Marshals awaiting transport to a federal facility. The case was part of the Justice Department’s “Operation Take Back America,” a broad initiative targeting cartels and violent crime.
