Bank Robbery Rocks Lawrence, Kansas
A brazen bank robbery shook the quiet streets of Lawrence, Kansas, on September 5, 2013. Matthew W. Headley, 37, walked into the US Bank located at 1807 W. 23rd Street, wearing a golf hat and pajama pants.
According to eyewitnesses, Headley handed a teller a note demanding $100s and $50s. The teller, following protocol, alerted the authorities, and soon after, Headley was apprehended at a nearby convenience store.
Lawrence Police Department officers, assisted by the FBI, quickly closed in on the suspect, bringing an end to the high-stakes robbery.
Today, Headley pleaded guilty to the charges, admitting to his role in the heist. Sentencing is set for June 9, with both sides recommending a 24-month federal prison sentence.
U.S. Attorney Barry Grissom commended the Lawrence Police Department, the FBI, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Mike Warner for their tireless efforts in solving the case.
