WICHITA, KAN. – In a grim revelation of tech-enabled criminality, Michael L. Stratton, 30, from Burlington, has been caught red-handed for using his PlayStation 3 to amass child pornography, according to U.S. Attorney Tom Beall.
The court documents reveal that Stratton not only engaged in conversations about child pornography but also traded explicit content within the console’s network. His sinister online moniker was Susan_14, a chilling facade behind which he communicated his sickening desires.
Sony, vigilant over its PlayStation Network, noticed Stratton’s activities and flagged them to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) after receiving complaints from other users. The investigation that followed led to Stratton’s exposure and charges.
Stratton’s messages were graphic: “u want to see naked kids tonight,” he wrote to an unknown recipient, while another message read, “Friend Request. Do you have child porn?” His intent was clear, his actions criminal.
Sentencing for Stratton is scheduled for August 7th, where the parties agree to recommend a five-year federal prison term. Beall commended the FBI and Assistant U.S. Attorney Christine Kenney for their relentless pursuit of justice in this case.
The dark corner of gaming culture where Stratton operated has once again been exposed, underscoring the need for constant vigilance and robust security measures to protect our children from predators who lurk in the digital world.
