Miller Sentenced to 47 Months for Gun Possession in D.C.

Washington – Antoine Miller, 35, of Washington, D.C., faced a severe judicial reckoning today as he was sentenced to a 47-month term behind bars for his brazen act of illegal firearm possession. The sentence followed a bench trial in which Miller stood convicted on February 2, 2017, in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia.

The transgression dates back to March 31, 2016, when Miller was observed by MPD officers in a routine operation. The encounter turned tense as Miller tried to conceal a firearm from law enforcement, only to confess his possession under duress. Miller’s previous record, marred by drug and weapons offenses, added weight to the court’s decision.

Miller’s current sentence is the culmination of a long legal odyssey that began in 2004, when he was sentenced to over 11 years for similar crimes. Now, following his release from this new sentence, Miller will serve two additional years under supervised release. Moreover, his probation from the earlier case is at risk of revocation.

U.S. Attorney Channing D. Phillips and MPD Chief Peter Newsham both praised the officers who apprehended Miller and the legal team that saw the case through to conclusion. Paralegal Specialists Jeannette Litz and Teesha Tobias, along with Assistant U.S. Attorneys Veronica Jennings and Emory V. Cole, were also commended for their contributions.

Miller’s sentence sends a clear message: Washington D.C.’s streets are not safe havens for those who would misuse firearms. The Metropolitan Police Department and the justice system stand united in their commitment to uphold law and order.
