ISMAEL AZUA-RINCONADA, 27, of Mexico, has been convicted of Illegal Reentry of a Deported Alien, following a three-day trial in federal court.
The conviction, announced by John Stuart Bruce, United States Attorney for the Eastern District of North Carolina, is the result of a thorough investigation conducted by agents of Homeland Security Investigation and the Hoke County Sheriff’s Office.
According to evidence presented at trial, AZUA-RINCONADA was found in Robeson County, North Carolina, after having previously been deported from the United States on June 21, 2011, at Hidalgo, Texas, and again on September 17, 2011, at Calexico, California.
The evidence further showed that AZUA-RINCONADA had been previously convicted of illegal entry and reentered without having obtained the express permission of the Attorney General or the Secretary of Homeland Security.
The case was heard before United States District Judge Louise Wood Flanagan, who presided over the three-day trial. The jury found AZUA-RINCONADA guilty of the charges brought against him.
The conviction of AZUA-RINCONADA serves as a reminder of the importance of enforcing immigration laws and the consequences of illegal reentry into the United States. The investigation and prosecution of this case demonstrate the commitment of law enforcement agencies to upholding the law and protecting national security.
The United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of North Carolina will continue to work tirelessly to prosecute cases of illegal reentry and other crimes, ensuring that those who break the law are held accountable for their actions.
