Kirk Simplicio, Statutory Rape, New Mexico 2015

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – A shocking turn of events in McKinley County as Kirk Simplicio, 24, from Zuni Pueblo, has been sentenced to a staggering 16 months behind bars for his despicable acts of statutory rape.

Simplicio’s arrest came on March 17, 2015, when federal charges were filed against him for sexually abusing a minor. The heinous crime, which took place on Zuni Pueblo in McKinley County on January 1, 2014, shocked the community and the nation alike.

The victim, just 14 years old at the time of the abuse, was at least four years Simplicio’s junior. The admitted sexual act has left a lasting scar on her life, while Simplicio now faces his own harsh reality as he pleads guilty to the charges.

Following a trial that unfolded on May 26, 2016, Simplicio accepted his fate and admitted to the crime. As a result of his actions, he will spend the next 16 months in federal prison, followed by five years of supervised release. Upon his release, he will be required to register as a sex offender.
