Camden, SC – Ramon Orlando Alvarenga-Rodriguez, a 34-year-old Honduran national, has entered a guilty plea in federal court for Illegal Re-Entry, according to United States Attorney Beth Drake. The case marks the third time Alvarenga-Rodriguez has been deported and re-entered the United States without permission.
Alvarenga-Rodriguez faced unrelated charges when ICE-Homeland Security Investigations agents apprehended him at the Kershaw County Detention Center in February 2017. His prior deportations were based on an order of removal, and he had been convicted of Improper Entry by an Alien.
U.S. District Judge J. Michelle Childs is scheduled to impose sentence following a review of the presentence report prepared by the U.S. Probation Office.
The maximum penalty for Illegal Re-Entry under 8 U.S.C. § 1326(a)(2) and (b) includes imprisonment for up to 20 years and/or a fine of $250,000. Assistant United States Attorney William E. Day, II is handling the prosecution of this case.
ICE-Homeland Security Investigations agents conducted the investigation that led to Alvarenga-Rodriguez’s conviction.
This case serves as a stark reminder of the federal government’s commitment to enforcing immigration laws and protecting the borders from illegal re-entry.
