Alexandria man Nigel Anthony Forde, 33, is headed to federal prison for a decade after being sentenced today for conspiring to distribute five kilograms or more of cocaine. The sentence, handed down by Senior U.S. District Judge T.S. Ellis, III, marks the end of a tight-knit investigation into a sustained drug operation run from his home in Northern Virginia.
Court documents reveal Forde orchestrated a steady stream of illicit shipments between December 2016 and August 28, 2017. Over that period, he received 15 multi-pound deliveries of cocaine, funneling kilos of the drug through the mail. His operation unraveled when law enforcement intercepted a package addressed directly to his Alexandria residence—inside, nearly three kilograms of cocaine were seized.
That raid was just the beginning. A follow-up search of Forde’s home uncovered a loaded firearm, an additional quarter-kilogram of cocaine, drug paraphernalia, and a staggering $290,975 in cash. The discovery of the weapon added a dangerous edge to the case, flagging concerns over armed drug distribution in residential neighborhoods.
Forde’s conviction was the result of a coordinated federal effort. Agencies including the Drug Enforcement Administration’s Washington Field Division, the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, and the Alexandria Police Department worked in tandem to track the shipments and build a case. The Eastern District of Virginia’s office spearheaded prosecution, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Carina A. Cuellar leading the charge.
Tracy Doherty-McCormick, Acting U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, confirmed the sentencing alongside top law enforcement officials: Karl C. Colder of the DEA, Robert B. Wemyss of the Postal Inspection Service, and Alexandria Chief of Police Michael L. Brown. The joint announcement underscored the seriousness of the crime and the reach of interagency cooperation.
Details of the case, including court filings and sentencing transcripts, are publicly available through the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Virginia, the District Court’s public docket, and PACER under Case No. 1:17-cr-287. Forde’s 10-year sentence reflects the federal crackdown on high-volume drug traffickers operating in suburban hubs like Alexandria.
