KANSAS CITY, Mo. – In a dramatic turn of events, Orval L. Johnson, 26, pleaded guilty in federal court today for his role in a drug deal that turned deadly. The incident, which involved an attempted cover-up with a false rape claim, shocked the community.
Johnson admitted to selling cocaine on three occasions to an undercover detective and was caught during a drug transaction with $170 worth of cocaine in his possession. He claimed self-defense in the shooting death of a man, R.B., but physical evidence at the scene did not support his story.
LATASHA M. ALEXANDER, 27, was sentenced to eight months without parole for misprision of a felony. She falsely reported an attempted rape to conceal Johnson’s drug activities, lying that she had shot R.B. in self-defense.
Johnson, who admitted to daily cocaine deliveries and use since November 2016, faces up to life in federal prison without parole. The sentencing hearing is set to follow a presentence investigation by the U.S. Probation Office.
This case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Adam Caine, investigated by the Kansas City, Mo., Police Department and the ATF.
