Benjamin Danneman Faces 57-Month Sentence for Healthcare Fraud

ST. LOUIS, MO – Benjamin David Danneman, a 37-year-old from Eureka, has been handed a 57-month prison term for a trio of fraud crimes: healthcare fraud, Social Security fraud, and aggravated identity fraud.

The sentence was pronounced by U.S. District Judge Ronnie White in federal court on a day that saw Danneman face the music for his deceptive tactics. During his reign of deceit, which spanned over two years, Danneman preyed on the vulnerable, posing as a registered nurse at prestigious healthcare facilities including Alexian Brothers Sherbrooke Village and the Rehabilitation Institute of St. Louis.

But the fraud went beyond healthcare. Danneman also leveraged stolen identities to rent apartments, secure loans, obtain credit cards, and insurance in six different states between 2017 and 2018. His brazenness knew no bounds as he assumed the role of assistant director of nursing at Des Peres Healthcare, earning himself a salary of $68,000 annually for overseeing patient care.

U.S. Department of Health and Human Services – Office of the Inspector General and the U.S. Secret Service led the investigation that unveiled Danneman’s fraudulent ploy. Assistant U.S. Attorney Dorothy McMurtry spearheaded the case on behalf of the U.S. Attorney’s Office, ensuring justice was served for the victims who fell prey to his cunning scheme.

The sentence handed down today is a stark reminder of the consequences faced by those who abuse their positions of trust and exploit the systems meant to protect society’s most vulnerable members.
