Rodney Baggott, 58, will die in prison for gunning down Uber Eats driver Rasheek Abdullah in broad daylight. The shooting stemmed from a simple case of road rage near the Dupont Circle Metro station on January 30th. Baggott, already a convicted killer, snapped after Abdullah’s car passed him, and blasted Abdullah in the neck.
According to court documents, Baggott was driving a white Mitsubishi Outlander when the incident occurred. He apparently believed Abdullah had cut him off. Rather than let it go, Baggott pulled a firearm and unleashed a hail of bullets. He then peeled out, leaving Abdullah bleeding on the street with his girlfriend in the passenger seat.
The pair’s attempt to cover their tracks quickly unraveled. They immediately contacted an auto body shop about damage to the Mitsubishi – damage that matched descriptions of the vehicle involved in the shooting. Police quickly connected the dots, and a jury wasted no time finding Baggott guilty of first-degree murder, possession of a firearm during a crime, and being a felon in possession.
U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro didn’t mince words. “This wasn’t just an outburst,” she stated. “This was a career criminal taking another life over nothing.” Judge Reggie B. Walton agreed, handing down the life-without-parole sentence today.
