GREAT FALLS, Montana – In a shocking turn of events, Sierra Shawnee Taylor, a 36-year-old former elementary school teacher, has admitted to sexually abusing two students on the Blackfeet Indian Reservation.
Taylor, also known as Sierra Schildt, pleaded guilty to sexual abuse of a minor in a federal court hearing. U.S. Attorney Kurt Alme confirmed the details of the case, stating that Taylor engaged in a sexual relationship with one of the victims, an eighth-grade student, during the 2014-2015 school year.
The prosecution revealed that Taylor taught a mixed-grade class at the East Glacier Elementary School, which included some eighth-grade students. According to court records, Taylor entered into a sexual relationship with one boy, having intercourse with him twice. Investigators also identified a second victim, another eighth-grade student, with whom Taylor committed a sexual act in 2012.
The case was investigated by the FBI, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Kalah Paisley leading the prosecution. U.S. Magistrate Judge John T. Johnston presided over the hearing and recommended that Taylor’s plea be accepted by U.S. District Judge Brian M. Morris, who will ultimately sentence the defendant.
Taylor faces a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison, a $250,000 fine, and five years to life of supervised release. Sentencing is set for November 6. The charges against Taylor carry significant weight, and the community is left to wonder how such abuse went unchecked for so long.
