New Orleans, LA – In a stunning turn of events, Beau Hebert, 40, from Terrebonne Parish, has been indicted by a federal grand jury for violations of the Federal Controlled Substances and Gun Control Acts. The charges include distributing and possessing with intent to distribute 50 grams or more of methamphetamine, possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime, and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Hebert’s indictment comes as part of an extensive investigation led by the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF), which targets major drug trafficking organizations. If convicted, Hebert faces a mandatory minimum sentence of ten years imprisonment for the narcotics trafficking charges, with a maximum life sentence possible. The penalties also include a fine of up to $10 million and at least five years of supervised release.
The defendant also faces additional penalties: ten years for being a felon in possession of a firearm, and an extra six-year term if convicted of possessing a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking. Additionally, Hebert is subject to a $100 mandatory special assessment fee per count.
U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans emphasized that the indictment serves only as a charging document and that the defendant’s guilt must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
The investigation into Hebert was conducted by various law enforcement agencies, including the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration and local sheriff’s offices in Terrebonne, St. Charles, Lafourche, Jefferson, and St. John parishes, as well as the Louisiana State Police. Assistant United States Attorney Melissa Bücher is handling the prosecution.
