Bryan Gachupin, a 21-year-old man from Acoma, New Mexico, has been charged with sexually abusing two minors. According to court documents, Gachupin engaged in sexual acts with two different minors in separate incidents in December 2024 and January 2025.
The alleged abuse occurred on the Acoma Pueblo, where Gachupin is an enrolled member. Gachupin is facing two counts of sexual abuse of a minor, which carries a maximum sentence of up to 15 years in prison if he is convicted.
The case was investigated by the Bureau of Indian Affairs, with assistance from the Acoma Police Department and the Regional Computer Forensics Laboratory (RCFL). Assistant U.S. Attorney Nicholas Marshall is prosecuting the case.
Acting U.S. Attorney Ryan Ellison made the announcement today, stressing that an indictment is merely an allegation. Gachupin will remain on conditions of release pending trial, which has not yet been scheduled.
Gachupin is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
The investigation into Gachupin’s alleged crimes is ongoing, and it is unclear at this time what led authorities to suspect him of sexual abuse.
Gachupin’s trial has not yet been scheduled, and it is unclear when the case will go to trial.
