Douglas Beardsley, Meth & Gun Trafficking, Jamestown NY, 2023
BUFFALO, N.Y. – Douglas Beardsley, 38, of Jamestown, New York, is staring down a decade in federal prison after admitting to running a lucrative methamphetamine operation and illegally possessing firearms. Beardsley pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge Richard J. Arcara to conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute, and to distribute, 500 grams or more of methamphetamine, and being a felon in possession of firearms. The charges carry a mandatory minimum penalty of 10 years, with the potential for a life sentence.
According to Assistant U.S. Attorney Joshua A. Violanti, Beardsley’s drug dealing spanned from September 2018 to January 2019. He allegedly flooded the Jamestown area with heroin and methamphetamine, leveraging a network of co-conspirators and runners to push his product. Facebook and other electronic devices were key tools in his operation, facilitating distribution and communication. Beardsley wasn’t just moving small amounts; investigators allege he distributed “large amounts” of meth to numerous individuals throughout the city.
The feds zeroed in on two Jamestown residences – on Linden and Forest Avenue – as central hubs for Beardsley’s trafficking. A January 2019 raid on the Forest Avenue location turned up a stash of crystal methamphetamine, a digital scale, drug paraphernalia, $296 in cash, and, crucially, two firearms. This discovery was particularly damning given Beardsley’s already lengthy criminal record. Authorities estimate Beardsley raked in approximately $112,000 in illicit profits from his drug trafficking activities.
Beardsley’s past is checkered with convictions. He was previously convicted in Chautauqua County Court in March 2005, March 2009, and February 2013 on charges including drug possession, attempted burglary, and driving while intoxicated (DWI). These convictions legally barred him from owning or possessing any firearms – a fact that now significantly exacerbates his legal troubles. The case is part of a larger Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces (OCDETF) operation, aiming to dismantle major criminal organizations.
The investigation was a collaborative effort involving the Jamestown Police Department, the Jamestown Metro Drug Task Force, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), and the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office. Jamestown Police Chief Timothy Jackson, DEA Special Agent-in-Charge Frank A. Tarentino III, ATF Special Agent-in-Charge John B. Devito, and Sheriff James Quattrone all played key roles in building the case against Beardsley.
Beardsley is scheduled to be sentenced on May 30, 2023, before Judge Arcara. With the mandatory minimum of 10 years hanging over his head, and the possibility of a life sentence, Beardsley’s days dealing drugs on the streets of Jamestown appear to be over. The investigation continues, and authorities haven’t ruled out further charges against Beardsley’s associates.
