Georgia Man Admits to Capitol Cop Assault

WASHINGTON D.C. – The fallout from the January 6th insurrection continues as Kevin Douglas Creek, 47, of Alpharetta, Georgia, admitted in federal court today to physically attacking law enforcement officers during the breach of the U.S. Capitol. Creek’s guilty plea adds to the growing list of individuals held accountable for the chaos that disrupted the certification of the 2020 presidential election.

According to court documents, Creek assaulted two officers on the West Terrace of the Capitol. At approximately 2:28 p.m. on January 6th, Creek struck the left hand of a Metropolitan Police Department officer, who was wielding a baton. Just one minute later, Creek physically engaged with a U.S. Capitol Police Officer, pushing him under the right shoulder and kicking him. This wasn’t a peaceful protest; it was a deliberate attack on those sworn to protect the seat of American democracy.

Creek pleaded guilty to the charge of assaulting, resisting, or impeding certain officers in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. He now faces a potential sentence of up to eight years in prison, along with three years of supervised release and a hefty $250,000 fine. Sentencing is currently scheduled for March 10, 2022, giving Creek time to consider the consequences of his actions.

Federal investigators identified Creek as suspect #296 in photos circulated seeking information after the riot. He was arrested in Georgia on June 9, 2021, and has remained released pending sentencing. The FBI’s Atlanta and Washington Field Offices played key roles in building the case against him, demonstrating the ongoing commitment to pursuing justice for those involved in the Capitol breach.

The Department of Justice is prosecuting the case through the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia and the National Security Division’s Counterterrorism Section, with assistance from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Georgia. This is far from an isolated incident. In the ten months since January 6th, over 675 individuals have been arrested in nearly every state for crimes related to the Capitol breach, with over 210 charged with assaulting or impeding law enforcement.

The investigation remains active, and authorities are urging anyone with information related to the January 6th events to come forward.
