Gulfport, Miss. – A Mexican national has been dealt a tough blow in the legal system after being sentenced to serve 12 months and one day in prison, followed by a year of supervised release, for unlawful reentry into the United States as a removed alien.
According to court documents, Daniel Alvarado-Alvarado, 29, was apprehended on Interstate 10 in Jackson County after being stopped by a Jackson County Deputy Sheriff for a traffic violation. The arrest stemmed from Alvarado-Alvarado’s lack of a driver’s license and possession of a fraudulent Texas Identification Card.
Further investigation revealed that the defendant had been convicted twice for driving under the influence and once for illegal entry into the United States. His removal from the U.S. was not just once, but multiple times, with no official permission to reenter the country.
In addition to his prison term, Alvarado-Alvarado’s supervised release period will be non-reporting while he is outside of the United States. However, if he attempts to return without legal authorization, he could face further penalties and prosecution.
The case against Alvarado-Alvarado was brought to light on August 26, 2021, when he pleaded guilty before Judge McNeel.
U.S. Attorney Darren LaMarca and Jason E. Schneider, Chief Patrol Agent of the Border Patrol’s New Orleans Sector, announced the sentence. The U.S. Border Patrol and the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office conducted the investigation, with Assistant United States Attorney Stan Harris handling the prosecution.
