Justin Eskridge, ATM Embezzlement, Ohio 2023

A former armored truck driver in Ohio has pleaded guilty to stealing more than $220,000 from PNC ATMs. Justin Eskridge, 37, of Reynoldsburg, admitted to embezzling the cash between December 14, 2022, and January 9, 2023, while working for Loomis LLC, a leading armored truck company.

Eskridge, who was employed as an armed service technician, was contracted by PNC Bank to transport cash to various ATMs and bank branches. The investigation began after PNC bank tellers reported shortages totaling approximately $226,000 cash when they balanced the residual amounts on certain ATMs.

Loomis identified Eskridge as the technician servicing the route and launched an investigation. Eskridge eventually admitted to Loomis that he had taken the money and led the company to recover approximately $144,000 cash hidden in his car.

As part of his plea, Eskridge will pay the remaining balance to Loomis. Theft or embezzlement by a bank employee or agent is a federal crime punishable by up to 30 years in prison.

Congress sets the maximum statutory sentence, and sentencing of the defendant will be determined by the Court at a future hearing based on the advisory sentencing guidelines and other statutory factors.

U.S. Attorney Kenneth L. Parker and FBI Special Agent Elena Iatarola announced the guilty plea entered today before Chief U.S. District Judge Algenon L. Marbley. Assistant U.S. Attorney Damoun Delaviz is representing the United States in this case.

The guilty plea marks another high-profile case of embezzlement by a bank employee in the Southern District of Ohio. The public is reminded that federal law enforcement agencies will continue to investigate and prosecute those who commit financial crimes.

The investigation was a collaborative effort between Loomis, PNC Bank, and the FBI, highlighting the importance of cooperation in preventing and detecting financial crimes.
