EL PASO, Texas – A federal judge has convicted U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Officer Miguel Angel Delgado Jr., 40, of El Paso, on two counts of deprivation of rights under color of law and one count of the falsification of a document. The charges stem from incidents where Delgado is alleged to have used excessive force while on duty at the Bridge of Americas Port of Entry between October 2019 and June 2020.
According to court documents and evidence presented at trial, Delgado’s actions resulted in bodily injury to victims. Following one incident, Delgado submitted a falsified CBP Incident Log Report, inaccurately reporting the occurrence.
The defendant now faces up to 10 years in prison for each use of force incident and an additional 20 years for the falsification of a document charge. The case was announced by U.S. Attorney Jaime Esparza of the Western District of Texas.
Investigations into Delgado’s actions were conducted by the Department of Homeland Security Office of Inspector General and the CBP Office of Professional Responsibility. Assistant U.S. Attorney Patricia Aguayo is handling the prosecution of the case.
The conviction of Delgado underscores the serious consequences faced by law enforcement officers who violate their oath and misuse their authority. The community is encouraged to remain vigilant and report any instances of misconduct by public officials.
