D.C. Woman Convicted of Kidnapping Roommate

WASHINGTON – In a brutal display of violence, Antoinette Gilmore, 28, of Washington, D.C. has been found guilty of kidnapping her roommate.

Yesterday, after a three-day jury trial before the Honorable Errol Arthur in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia, the verdict was delivered by U.S. Attorney Matthew M. Graves and Chief Pamela Smith of the Metropolitan Police Department.

The victim, who wishes to remain anonymous, was involved in a heated argument with Gilmore over the phone on October 12, 2023. During the argument, Gilmore demanded that the victim move out of her apartment. The two agreed that Gilmore would pick up the victim from downtown and bring him back to her apartment so he could remove his belongings.

However, once inside the car, Gilmore instructed her cousin to punch and beat the victim, taking his belongings as they drove. The victim attempted to escape, but the doors were locked, trapping him inside. At one point, he managed to open the back door and make a run for it, but was chased down by Gilmore’s cousin, who dragged him back into the car by the collar of his shirt.

The victim finally broke free and ran straight to the Sixth District Police substation, where he reported the assault to police. This case was investigated by the Metropolitan Police Department, with Assistant U.S. Attorneys Sara Hanson and Lauren Miller of the Major Crimes Section of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia prosecuting and trying the case.

Gilmore’s sentencing is scheduled for July 23, 2024. This conviction serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of violence and the importance of holding perpetrators accountable for their actions. As the investigation and trial demonstrate, no one is above the law, and those who commit crimes will be brought to justice.
