DEL RIO, Texas – Belizean national Francis Kerr, 51, of Belmopan, Belize, has been found guilty of re-entering the United States, a federal crime that carries serious penalties.
A federal jury delivered the guilty verdict in a federal court in Del Rio, Texas, after hearing evidence that Kerr had been formally deported through Houston on or about October 1, 2009, but had since re-entered the country illegally.
According to court documents, Kerr was arrested on August 22, 2023, near Eagle Pass, Texas. His arrest comes after a lengthy history of run-ins with the law, including a 17-year and four-month prison sentence served in Los Angeles, California, for multiple counts of robbery and assault with a firearm.
Kerr’s past convictions include two counts of second-degree robbery, four counts of assault with a firearm, and one count of conspiracy to commit robbery. This conviction marks a significant blow to Kerr’s efforts to evade the law and re-establish himself in the United States.
Kerr’s case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Paul Markovits and Joshua Garland, with support from U.S. Customs and Immigration Services and the U.S. Border Patrol.
U.S. Attorney Jaime Esparza of the Western District of Texas made the announcement, emphasizing the importance of holding individuals accountable for their actions and upholding the nation’s immigration laws.
Kerr’s re-entry conviction is a stark reminder of the consequences of ignoring deportation orders and the importance of respecting the nation’s borders.
