Zeshan Malik Fayyaz, Fentanyl Trafficking, Alabama 2024

MOBILE, AL – Two California men have been handed down a severe sentence for their involvement in what authorities describe as an ambitious scheme to distribute five kilograms of fentanyl, worth approximately $150,000 on the street. United States District Court Judge Jeffrey U. Beaverstock sentenced Zeshan Malik Fayyaz and Lener Daneski Jairon-Solis each to 70 months imprisonment for Conspiracy to Possess with the Intent to Distribute Fentanyl.

Documents filed with the Court revealed that the pair had been targeted by a cooperative source, who was working alongside a Mobile County Sheriff’s Deputy in an undercover capacity. The men were lured into Mobile County on October 8, 2022, where they were met with an agreement to purchase two kilograms of fentanyl for $38,000 per kilogram. During the exchange, Jairon-Solis removed two kilograms from a suitcase and was given what appeared to be $76,000 in cash, though the actual amount was less than $10,000.

Unbeknownst to the defendants, law enforcement had been monitoring the transaction and followed them after the initial deal. The vehicle was stopped by officers, leading to the recovery of an additional three kilograms of fentanyl from within the car. The defendants were planning to deliver these drugs to Pensacola, Florida.

United States Attorney Sean P. Costello praised the investigators for their efforts in dismantling this dangerous operation, emphasizing that the seizure of five kilograms of fentanyl has the potential to save many lives. ‘Two milligrams of fentanyl is considered a lethal dose,’ said Costello, highlighting the gravity of the epidemic facing the nation.

The Department of Homeland Security, Homeland Security Investigations, and the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office collaborated on this investigation, while Assistant United States Attorney George F. May prosecuted the case with vigor.
