Swansea Cash Courier Robbery: Three Men Indicted

BOSTON – In a grim tale of criminal daring, three men have been indicted for the February 2024 armed robbery of a cash courier in Swansea, Mass. Steven Madison, 38, Christopher White, 37, and Quentin McDonald, 25, each face multiple charges including Hobbs Act robbery, conspiracy, and arson.

The trio allegedly executed their heist with cold-blooded precision, robbing the courier at gunpoint before zip-tying and pepper spraying him. They then burned the stolen U-Haul van used in their escape. Madison and White were also charged with brandishing a firearm, being felons in possession of a firearm, and possession with intent to distribute cocaine.

According to charging documents, the crime began early on February 19, 2024, when two men were caught on video stealing a rental van from U-Haul Moving & Storage in Abington. Later that day, an armed courier arrived at a Swansea bank with $436,200 in cash for deposit. The masked robbers allegedly pointed a gun at the courier, forced him into his own car, and drove away with the money.

Surveillance footage revealed that the courier managed to free one hand, fired four shots towards the U-Haul van, and then called 911. The suspects reportedly met with a third man in Swansea before transferring the cash to an SUV and torching the U-Haul van.

A subsequent investigation linked Madison, White, and McDonald to both the robbery and arson. Search warrants uncovered thousands of dollars in cash, luxury items, firearms, ammunition, and cocaine at their residences.

The defendants face serious penalties if convicted. Hobbs Act robbery carries a sentence of up to 20 years in prison, three years of supervised release, and fines of up to $250,000. The arson charge alone mandates a minimum of five years in prison, with the possibility of up to 20 years.
