Cossey Sentenced to 22 Years for Methamphetamine Conspiracy
Larry Douglas Cossey, a 59-year-old resident of Russellville, Arkansas, will spend the next 22 years in federal prison for his role in a methamphetamine conspiracy. The sentence was handed down today by United States District Judge James M. Moody, Jr.
Cossey was indicted by a federal grand jury on June 4, 2024, on one count of conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute methamphetamine, two counts of distribution of methamphetamine, and one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm, and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime. He pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute 500 grams or more of methamphetamine on February 3, 2025.
During an investigation into drug trafficking in the Russellville area, Cossey sold methamphetamine to a confidential informant on January 10, 2023, and January 26, 2023. On April 10, 2023, a Russellville Police Department officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle driven by Cossey, which led to the discovery of $13,108 in currency, marijuana, and a safe containing 399 grams of methamphetamine.
Another traffic stop on June 16, 2023, yielded a baggie containing approximately four grams of methamphetamine, a loaded firearm, and various other items including digital scales, a smoking pipe, and THC vape pens. Cossey’s sentence was enhanced due to his status as a career offender, with a criminal history including several serious drug convictions.
The investigation was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives with assistance from the Pope County Sheriff’s Office, Russellville Police Department, and the 5th Judicial Drug Task Force. United States Attorney Jonathan D. Ross announced the sentence, which also included five years of supervised release. There is no parole in the federal system.
Cossey’s extensive criminal history and the severity of the charges against him led to the harsh sentence. His role in the methamphetamine conspiracy and the large quantities of the substance involved contributed to the prolonged prison term. The case serves as a reminder of the ongoing struggle against drug trafficking in the region.
