COLUMBUS, Ohio – A grim tale of exploitation and abuse unfolded in federal court as Anthony Sims, 56, was handed a 600-month sentence for sexually exploiting two minor girls and forcing one into commercial sex acts. The sentence, imposed by U.S. District Judge Edmund A. Sargus, Jr., came after Sims pleaded guilty to two counts of sexually exploiting a minor and one count of sex trafficking a minor.
The horror began in 2020 when Sims, then a registered sex offender with previous convictions out of Michigan, subjected a 12-year-old girl to repeated sexual assaults. Over six months, he raping her dozens of times, providing drugs and alcohol to facilitate his crimes. The girl was coerced into posing for nude photos in exchange for substances.
Another 13-year-old girl fell prey to Sims’ manipulation. After smoking marijuana with him, Sims raped the girl multiple times. He also took nude photographs of her, often in compromising positions with stuffed animals or pillows. The girl was coerced into having sex with roughly 50 men at various hotels, and Sims sold pornographic photos of her.
Assistant United States Attorneys Emily Czerniejewski and Tyler J. Aagard represented the United States in this case, alongside officials from the FBI, Ohio Organized Crime Investigations Commission, and Columbus Police Department. Sims’ sentence was announced on July 8 by Acting United States Attorney for the Southern District of Ohio, Kelly A. Norris, along with Special Agent in Charge Elena Iatarola of the FBI Cincinnati Division.
Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost’s Office emphasized the gravity of the crime, while Columbus Police Chief Elaine Bryant spoke about the importance of protecting young victims from such heinous acts. Sims’ sentence serves as a stark reminder of the devastating consequences of sex trafficking and the relentless efforts needed to combat this criminal activity.
