Kansas City Carjackers Face Decades in Prison

ST. LOUIS – Two Kansas City, Missouri men have been handed down harsh sentences for a chilling 2022 St. Louis County carjacking. U.S. District Judge John A. Ross sentenced Reginald Hudson, now 29, to 125 months in prison on Monday. On July 9th, Hudson’s co-defendant, Ki’Juan Calhoun, 28, was also sentenced to a staggering 144 months for their role in the heist.

Hudson and Calhoun pleaded guilty in April to one count of carjacking and one count of brandishing a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence. The men admitted to robbing a woman at gunpoint of her 2019 Ford Fusion on January 12, 2022, during an intense confrontation at her apartment in St. Louis County. The victim recounted the terror as two armed men descended upon her, demanding keys, purse, and phone before speeding away with her vehicle.

Judge Ross expressed empathy for the victim’s ordeal during court proceedings, stating, “I completely understand the terror you had to be feeling that night.”

The stolen car was recovered by the Kansas City Police Department the following day. During an intensive investigation, officers discovered Hudson in possession of the victim’s purse and debit card, along with two handguns, at a nearby residence.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Ashley Walker successfully prosecuted the case on behalf of the St. Louis County Police Department, ensuring justice for the victim and the community.

The sentences handed down by Judge Ross are a stark reminder of the consequences facing those who engage in violent crimes like carjacking. Hudson and Calhoun will now serve out their lengthy prison terms, with both ordered to pay restitution totaling $24,438.
