ATHENS, GA – Seventeen individuals are facing federal charges following a massive takedown of a drug trafficking ring operating in and around Athens, Georgia. The operation, spearheaded by U.S. Attorney William R. “Will” Keyes, uncovered a network allegedly distributing fentanyl, cocaine, methamphetamine, and other controlled substances, alongside an alarming cache of weaponry, including a grenade launcher seized in Jefferson, Georgia.
The bust, executed on August 26th, involved a coordinated effort from thirteen federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies. Twelve search warrants were served in Athens and Atlanta, leading to 13 immediate arrests. The defendants are currently appearing in U.S. Magistrate Court in Macon, Georgia.
