MINNEAPOLIS – A trio of youthful defendants faces federal charges after a daring armed robbery spree targeting gas stations near the Minnesota State Fair. Dylan Charles Jungwirth, 21; Kenneth Toy Spight, also 21; and Kemonie Hurd, 18, were all indicted by a federal grand jury on Hobbs Act Robbery charges.
The spree began on August 17, 2025, with the trio using a highly realistic airsoft gun to rob store employees at three gas stations across Minnesota. Their brazen acts led to the temporary shutdown of preparations for the state fair, one of the nation’s cherished traditions.
In the early morning hours, Jungwirth and Spight struck at a Speedway in Roseville. Hours later, they were joined by Hurd, as they robbed a BP station in Little Canada. Their third target was another BP station in Roseville, where violence erupted when one defendant struck a cashier on the head with a gun after the cashier refused to hand over his wallet.
After the third robbery, law enforcement launched a pursuit into St. Paul that resulted in a crash and a brief foot chase through woods. The trio was eventually apprehended, with one defendant arrested at the scene and two others later caught by police.
The chaos unfolded as fair preparations were underway, prompting an emergency alert to close the fairgrounds and advising the public to avoid the area. Following a thorough search, law enforcement issued a second alert declaring all clear.
In federal court yesterday, the defendants faced their initial appearances, with all three currently detained pending further proceedings. Conviction on these charges could carry life sentences for each defendant. The investigation was led by the FBI and local police departments, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Kristian Weir handling the prosecution.
