IOWA CITY, IOWA – Alfred Washington Jr., 46, has been handed a 27-month federal prison term for being a felon in possession of ammunition.
The sentence comes after authorities discovered ammunition during a search warrant at Washington’s residence and videos of him at a gun range on his phone. Washington is barred from owning firearms and ammunition due to previous convictions, including one for firearm possession as a felon and domestic abuser in 2018.
Upon completing his prison term, Washington will also serve a three-year supervised release period. There is no parole available in the federal system. The announcement was made by United States Attorney Richard D. Westphal of the Southern District of Iowa.
This case falls under Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), an initiative aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence, and enhancing community safety.
