SD Felon’s Rifle Lands Him 2.5 Years

Robert Wolfe Jr., 45, of Sisseton, South Dakota, is trading small-town life for a federal cell. On March 13, 2026, Chief Judge Roberto A. Lange sentenced Wolfe to 30 months after a raid on his home last April unearthed a Remington bolt-action rifle. The problem? A 2014 felony drug conviction had already stripped Wolfe of his right to possess a firearm. Roberts County deputies executed the search warrant on April 19, 2024, leading to the bust.

Wolfe initially pleaded guilty on November 17, 2026, after being indicted by a federal grand jury in February 2025. The feds didn’t mess around, immediately taking him into custody via the U.S. Marshals. He’s forfeiting the rifle on top of the prison sentence.

The operation was a multi-agency effort. The Roberts County Sheriff’s Office took the lead, with the ATF and FBI providing backup. Assistant U.S. Attorney Mark Joyce handled the prosecution. Seems like a straightforward case of a prohibited person possessing a prohibited weapon.

The Department of Justice is framing the case as part of “Operation Take Back America,” a broader initiative targeting gun violence and transnational crime. But down on the ground, it’s just another guy caught holding onto something he shouldn’t have. After his release, Wolfe will face three years of supervised release.
