Dontay Jenkins, Fentanyl Trafficking, Missouri 2024

A Maryland man is headed to federal prison for over 13 years for his role in a fentanyl trafficking ring and unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition, authorities said.

Dontay Jenkins, 33, of Greenbelt, Maryland, was sentenced to 160 months in prison by U.S. District Judge Catherine D. Perry for possessing a firearm and ammunition as a convicted felon and possessing drugs, some of which contained fentanyl. Jenkins was also ordered to pay $500 in special assessments and serve a 3-year term of supervised release following his prison term.

Jenkins was arrested in January 2022 after a search warrant was executed at his residence. During the search, officers found a handgun, ammunition, and 1.1 kilograms of fentanyl, as well as other controlled substances.

Jenkins was charged with one count of possession with intent to distribute fentanyl and one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition. He pleaded guilty to both charges in November 2023.

The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the Prince George’s County Police Department. U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Missouri, Sayler A. Fleming, praised the investigative work of the ATF and the Prince George’s County Police Department in bringing Jenkins to justice.

Jenkins’ sentencing is a significant blow to the fentanyl trafficking ring, which has plagued communities across the country. Fentanyl is a highly addictive and deadly synthetic opioid that has contributed to a surge in overdose deaths in recent years.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Missouri is committed to holding individuals accountable for their role in the fentanyl trafficking epidemic. This case serves as a reminder that those who engage in this type of activity will face severe consequences.
