A 540-kilogram cocaine bust in Midtown Miami has linked five South Florida defendants to a massive trafficking operation. Investigators say the ring moved kilogram-level quantities of the deadly drug, with cocaine stored and prepared for distribution in a high-rise apartment.
At the center of the operation was Daniel ‘Mickey’ Hernandez, 38, a key distributor who relied on suppliers and associates like Humberto ‘Kiki’ Moreno, Alexander ‘Al Biggs’ Walker Caraballo, Frank Gonzalez, and Jose Luis ‘Lil Cuz’ Diaz, Jr.
The investigation, dubbed Operation Mousetrap, is part of a larger effort to disrupt cocaine routes between Colombia, the Dominican Republic, and South Florida. The operation follows prior efforts like Operation Final Voyage, which led to the prosecution of high-level traffickers and cooperation from more than 90 defendants.
As part of the operation, investigators identified a network importing up to 1,700 kilograms of cocaine aboard high-end fishing vessels traveling from the Dominican Republic to Miami.
The defendants face serious charges, including conspiracy to distribute a controlled substance, distribution offenses, and possession of firearms in furtherance of drug trafficking. The case is a significant blow to the city’s cocaine trade, with authorities seizing a massive quantity of the deadly drug.
