Abraham Lewis Addison, Firearms and Counterfeiting, Ohio 2023

Akron Man Charged with Firearms and Counterfeiting

An Akron man is facing serious charges after being accused of dealing in counterfeit currency and possessing a firearm with an obliterated serial number.

Abraham Lewis Addison, 27, was indicted on five counts of uttering and dealing in counterfeit obligations or securities and one count of possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number. The indictment alleges that Addison had approximately $2,450 in counterfeit currency in the form of fake $50 and $20 bills on September 9, 2016.

According to the indictment, Addison also had a Ruger 9mm semiautomatic pistol with an obliterated serial number. The case was investigated by the Summit County Sheriff’s Office, Akron Police Department, Ohio Highway Patrol, Bath Police Department, and the United States Secret Service. It is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Teresa Riley.

Under federal law, if convicted, Addison’s sentence will be determined by the court after review of factors unique to this case, including the defendant’s prior criminal record, if any, the defendant’s role in the offense, and the characteristics of the violations. In all cases, the sentence will not exceed the statutory maximum and, in most cases, it will be less than the maximum.

An indictment is only a charge and is not evidence of guilt. A defendant is entitled to a fair trial in which it will be the government’s burden to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.

The case is a stark reminder of the serious consequences of engaging in illegal activities, and the importance of holding individuals accountable for their actions.

The indictment is the latest in a series of high-profile cases involving firearms and counterfeiting in Ohio. As the investigation continues, it is clear that Addison faces serious charges with potentially severe penalties.
