JACKSON, MS – A Mexican national, Luis Simon Acevedo-Rodriguez, 33, was slammed with a three-year federal prison sentence today for the third time he had illegally reentered the United States after being deported multiple times. The grim saga began when Border Patrol Agents in Rankin County on Interstate 20 apprehended Acevedo-Rodriguez during a vehicle stop on March 17, 2025.
Agents swiftly scanned his fingerprints into databases, revealing a disturbing pattern of lawlessness. Acevedo-Rodriguez had previously been convicted three times in the Western District of Texas for improper entry and illegal reentry. His face was all too familiar to the agents – it matched photographs from his past immigration records.
The man now paying for his transgressions pleaded guilty on June 6, 2025, after being indicted by a federal grand jury in April. Assistant U.S. Attorney Kimberly T. Purdie led the prosecution of this case, which was investigated with determination by the Mississippi Homeland Security Task Force (HSTF) as part of Operation Take Back America.
Acting U.S. Attorney Patrick A. Lemon and Eric P. DeLaune, Special Agent-in-Charge for Homeland Security Investigations, along with Adam M. Calderon, Acting Chief Patrol Agent of the Border Patrol’s New Orleans Sector, jointly announced Acevedo-Rodriguez’s sentence. The United States Border Patrol, with the assistance of the Rankin County Sheriff’s Office, was instrumental in bringing this criminal to justice.
HSTFs, established by President Trump under Executive Order 14159, are a key component of Operation Take Back America, which aims to repel illegal immigration and protect communities from violent crime. This initiative coordinates efforts across the Department of Justice and the Department of Homeland Security, ensuring that individuals like Acevedo-Rodriguez face the consequences of their actions.
Acevedo-Rodriguez’s sentence is a stark reminder of the repercussions faced by those who disregard U.S. immigration laws and repeatedly reenter the country after deportation.
