MARTINSBURG, WEST VIRGINIA – A Mineral County man has been sentenced to 102 months of incarceration for his role in distributing methamphetamine in the area.
Adam Michael, a 39-year-old resident of Burlington, West Virginia, was sentenced on an unspecified date for his involvement in a methamphetamine distribution ring. He had previously pled guilty to one count of “Conspiracy to Possess with Intent to Distribute and to Distribute Fifty Grams or More of Methamphetamine” in July 2020.
According to the investigation, Michael worked with others to distribute more than 50 grams of methamphetamine from October 2018 to February 2019 in Mineral County and elsewhere. This illicit activity posed a significant threat to public safety in the region.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Lara Omps-Botteicher on behalf of the government. The Potomac Highlands Drug & Violent Crimes Task Force, a HIDTA-funded initiative, led the investigation. This task force consists of the FBI, West Virginia State Police, Mineral County Sheriff’s Office, the Hampshire County Sheriff’s Office, the Grant County Sheriff’s Office, and the Keyser Police Department.
The court presiding over the case was Chief U.S. District Judge Gina M. Groh. Michael’s sentence of 102 months of incarceration reflects the severity of his crimes and the need to hold individuals accountable for their actions.
The investigation and prosecution of this case highlight the importance of collaboration between law enforcement agencies in addressing the complex issue of methamphetamine distribution in the region.
