Defendant Faces 18 Months in Federal Prison for Immigration Crime
CHARLESTON, W.Va. – A Mexican national, identified as Adan Zamudio-Escalante, also known as Victor Giron, has been sentenced to 18 months in federal prison for an immigration crime.
Zamudio-Escalante, 39, had previously pleaded guilty to illegally reentering the United States after having been removed on two different occasions. The prosecution stated that Zamudio-Escalante is also subject to removal proceedings.
According to court records, Zamudio-Escalante admitted to being convicted of illegally reentering the United States twice. The first conviction occurred on April 1, 2005, in Texas, and the second conviction occurred on January 6, 2010, in West Virginia. After each conviction, Zamudio-Escalante was removed from the United States to his home country of Mexico.
In a shocking turn of events, Zamudio-Escalante was found in Charleston by Department of Homeland Security agents on September 20, 2016, having illegally reentered the United States for a third time.
The investigation into Zamudio-Escalante’s immigration crimes was conducted by the Department of Homeland Security. Assistant United States Attorney Erik S. Goes is in charge of the prosecution.
United States District Judge John T. Copenhaver, Jr. imposed the sentence.
