Defendant Found Guilty in Aggravated Assault while Armed Case

Washington DC – In a shocking turn of events, a local man has been found guilty of aggravated assault while armed in a brutal Gresham Place shooting that left one victim seriously injured.

According to eyewitnesses, Adrian Lee, 49, of Washington, D.C., opened fire on the victims, a married couple, after a heated argument broke out over an expired insurance card. The victims, who were driving home from a restaurant, had been sideswiped by Lee’s wife earlier that day.

The victims, in an attempt to get insurance information, followed Lee’s wife and eventually ended up on the street where Lee lived. Lee, who had been watching the scene unfold, retrieved a gun from his house and ran towards the victims. In a chilling twist, the married couple was left shaken after Lee first pointed the gun at the female victim before turning and shooting the male victim once in the torso.

Lee and his wife fled to Florida immediately after the shooting, but were apprehended back in DC in March 2024 by United States Marshals. The case was investigated by the Metropolitan Police Department and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys Rashmika Nedungadi and Sara Matar of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia.

The jury delivered its verdict on September 24, 2024, after a trial in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia. The Honorable Judge Rainey Brandt scheduled sentencing for December 13, 2024. Lee is currently being held without bond.

The Gresham Place shooting has left the community reeling, with many calling for stricter gun laws. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia has vowed to continue fighting against violent crime in the city.

Lee’s sentencing is set for December 13, 2024. Grimy Times will continue to follow this case and provide updates as more information becomes available.
