A 42-year-old Milwaukee man has been sentenced to 12 years in federal prison for narcotics trafficking and using a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking crimes.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Ahmad R. Johnson was sentenced on September 30, 2021, after he pleaded guilty to two counts of drug trafficking and two counts of using a firearm in furtherance of such crimes.

The charges stemmed from two separate cases, one charged in 2019 and the other in 2020. In the first case, law enforcement executed a search warrant at Johnson’s residence on April 3, 2019, and recovered narcotics and a firearm.

Johnson was released while awaiting trial, but he was later arrested again on November 24, 2020, after law enforcement executed another search warrant at his residence. During the search, they recovered a loaded Ruger P93DC 9mm pistol with a 30-round extended magazine, as well as crack cocaine, marijuana, and numerous other items.

Johnson’s sentence includes 12 years in federal prison, followed by five years of supervised release. The case was jointly investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Milwaukee Police Department.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Wisconsin announced the sentence, which was handed down by a federal judge. Johnson’s guilty plea and sentence are a significant blow to the city’s efforts to combat narcotics trafficking and gun violence.
