United States Attorney Gregory J. Haanstad announced the sentencing of three individuals for drug trafficking on the Mole Lake Indian Reservation in Forest County, Wisconsin. The defendants, Anthony Quintana (43), Karen Quintana (39), and Diana Alvarado (40), were sentenced to substantial terms, with a total of more than 41 years in prison.
Anthony Quintana received a ten-year prison term and an additional ten years of supervised release. His wife, Karen, was handed a two-year sentence behind bars and five years of supervised release. Diana Alvarado faces thirty months in prison, followed by five years of supervised release.
The trio conspired to distribute over 150 grams of methamphetamine and more than 100 illegal oxycodone pills on the reservation. Anthony Quintana and Diana Alvarado were caught distributing at least an ounce of meth four times between November 2015 and January 2016, with one delivery exceeding two ounces. Karen Quintana played a role in arranging other deliveries.
Chief Judge William C. Griesbach emphasized the gravity of the crimes during sentencing, noting Anthony Quintana’s recidivism and his ‘unwillingness’ to quit dealing drugs despite previous convictions. Karen was part of a group that Griesbach said ‘destroys the fabric of communities,’ while Alvarado’s role in selling ‘poison’ was considered especially heinous.
The investigation into this drug ring was conducted by local authorities, including the Forest County Sheriff’s Department and the Wisconsin Department of Justice. Assistant United States Attorney Andrew J. Maier prosecuted the case.
