Becky Neeb, 37, Sentenced for Tax Evasion

Omaha, NE – Becky Neeb, 37, was sentenced to 5 years’ probation and ordered to make restitution to the IRS in the amount of $137,374 on Monday, October 15, 2018, in Omaha, Nebraska, by Chief United States District Judge Laurie Smith Camp for the crime of tax evasion.

Neeb willfully attempted to evade and defeat the assessment of her individual income tax for years 2011, 2012, and 2013 on her Form 1040 U.S. Individual Income Tax Returns. She evaded the assessment of her income tax liability for those years by under reporting her business receipts and over reporting her business expenses for her business, Top Notch Charms, which she operated in the Westroads Mall in Omaha.

‘Tax violations have been erroneously referred to as victimless crimes, but it’s the honest law-abiding citizen who is harmed when someone tries to manipulate our nation’s tax system,’ said Karl Stiften, IRS Criminal Investigation Special Agent in Charge.

The investigation revealed that Neeb intentionally avoided paying her tax obligations by manipulating her business records and misrepresenting her income. Her actions resulted in a significant loss of revenue for the government, totaling $137,374.

The case was investigated by IRS Criminal Investigations, who worked diligently to uncover the evidence needed to bring Neeb to justice.

Neeb’s conviction serves as a reminder that tax evasion is a serious crime with severe consequences. The IRS will continue to work tirelessly to prevent and investigate tax-related crimes, ensuring that those who attempt to cheat the system are held accountable.
