Defendants Charged in Brutal Murder of Teenager in Bronx
Two members of a violent gang alliance have been charged with the murder of a 16-year-old boy in the Bronx, announced U.S. Attorney Jay Clayton, Special Agent in Charge Ricky J. Patel of Homeland Security Investigations, and Commissioner of the New York City Police Department Jessica S. Tisch.
According to the indictment, Ahmar Garcia, also known as "OB," and Raheem Patterson, also known as "Rah Rah," were involved in a gang war that plagued the city in 2021, resulting in the deaths of multiple young men and boys throughout the Bronx.
The defendants allegedly carried out the attack on September 29, 2021, in broad daylight, and then boasted about their crimes online. The incident left a 16-year-old boy, Nisayah Sanchez, dead, and another victim injured.
Garcia and Patterson were brought into federal custody from New York State custody, where they had been serving state sentences for other violent crimes. The defendants are set to appear before U.S. Magistrate Judge Sarah L. Cave later today.
The case is assigned to U.S. District Judge Paul A. Engelmayer. The indictment alleges that the defendants’ actions were part of a larger cycle of violence that involved retaliatory shootings and taunting of rival gangs on social media.
"These charges stem from a violent gang war that played out on the streets of New York and ended with the cold-blooded murder of a 16-year-old boy," said U.S. Attorney Jay Clayton. "I want to thank the women and men of this Office and our law enforcement partners who never wavered in the over four years since Sanchez’s senseless murder."
"As alleged, the defendants’ callous disregard for human life will not be tolerated," said HSI Special Agent in Charge Ricky J. Patel. "For too long, these criminal organizations have terrorized neighborhoods and placed innocent lives at risk."
