TAMPA, FL – Jonathan Howard Kuykendall, a 39-year-old airman stationed at MacDill Air Force Base, has been convicted by a federal jury of one count of attempted enticement of a minor to engage in sexual activity. The verdict, delivered today, marks a significant blow in the ongoing fight against online predators and the exploitation of vulnerable children. Kuykendall now faces a minimum mandatory sentence of 10 years in federal prison, with the potential for life behind bars.
According to evidence presented at trial, the predatory behavior began in June 2022. Kuykendall initiated online communication with an individual identifying as “Ms. Glitter.” Alarmingly, “Ms. Glitter” immediately informed Kuykendall of her age – 14 – and revealed she resided on MacDill Air Force Base with her mother. Instead of ceasing contact, Kuykendall embarked on a calculated grooming process, subtly introducing sexually suggestive topics into their conversations. What started as innocuous discussions about cuddling and kissing quickly escalated.
The prosecution detailed how Kuykendall progressively sent increasingly graphic descriptions of sexual acts he desired to perform with “Ms. Glitter,” accompanied by a barrage of adult pornography images. For two weeks, this disturbing exchange continued unabated. On June 24, 2022, believing the minor’s mother was absent, Kuykendall agreed to meet “Ms. Glitter” at her home on the base. He even consumed several male sexual enhancement pills before driving to the location.
However, Kuykendall’s plans were thwarted when he arrived at the home and discovered “Ms. Glitter” was, in fact, an undercover federal agent. The agent was part of a proactive Internet Crimes Against Children operation, designed to identify and apprehend individuals like Kuykendall. He was arrested at the scene, his predatory intentions exposed. The investigation was a collaborative effort between the United States Air Force Office of Special Investigations Detachment 340, the 6th Security Forces Squadron at MacDill Air Force Base, and Homeland Security Investigations in Tampa.
Assistant United States Attorneys Karyna Valdes and Daniel J. Marcet are prosecuting the case, highlighting the Department of Justice’s commitment to vigorously pursuing those who prey on children. This conviction is a direct result of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in 2006 to combat the escalating epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. The project coordinates federal, state, and local resources to bring predators to justice and rescue victims.
Kuykendall’s sentencing is scheduled for September 19, 2024. The Grimy Times will continue to follow this case and provide updates as they become available.
