AKRON, Ohio – The grimy streets of Akron have witnessed another heavy sentence for a man who profited from the drug trade. Alonzo M. Strickland, 52, was today sentenced to 120 months in federal prison—10 years—for his involvement in a relentless cycle of drug trafficking and illegal firearm possession.
Strickland, a resident of Akron, faced Judge John R. Adams after pleading guilty to an array of serious charges. The court documents detailed his reign of terror, marked by cocaine distribution, maintaining a drug premise, and the unlawful use of firearms to further his criminal activities.
In April 2025, Strickland was indicted on one count of possession with intent to distribute cocaine, one count of maintaining a drug premise, and another for being a felon in possession of a firearm—this charge was based on his prior conviction for drug trafficking in 2006. He also admitted to possessing firearms in furtherance of drug trafficking offenses.
On January 29, 2025, federal agents executed a search warrant at Strickland’s residence. The evidence recovered was chilling: digital scales and over two pounds of cocaine, along with eight loaded firearms scattered throughout the home. These firearms included rifles, pistols, and shotguns, all in various calibers.
The FBI Akron Field Office led the investigation that culminated in today’s sentence. Assistant U.S. Attorney Toni Beth Schnellinger Feisthamel prosecuted the case for the Northern District of Ohio. Strickland was also ordered to serve five years of supervised release following his prison term, ensuring he remains off the streets and out of harm’s way.
