Akron Man Charged with Child Pornography
BUFFALO, N.Y.– U.S. Attorney William J. Hochul, Jr. announced today that a federal grand jury has returned an indictment charging Michael A. Taschetta, 54, of Akron, N.Y., with possession of child pornography. The charge carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison, a fine of $250,000, or both.
According to court documents, the defendant downloaded images of child pornography from the internet utilizing a peer-to-peer software application.
The indictment is the culmination of an investigation on the part of Special Agents of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Homeland Security Investigations, under the direction of James C. Spero, Special Agent in Charge.
The investigation highlights the ongoing threat of online predators who seek to exploit and harm vulnerable children.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Aaron J. Mango, who is handling the case, stated that the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
The indictment is a significant step in the fight against child exploitation, and we will continue to work tirelessly to hold those accountable who seek to harm our children.
