TRAVIS DEVON NETTLES, a 25-year-old Toledo resident, has been hit with new charges for possession of a firearm after authorities discovered he had a prior felony conviction. The United States Attorney for the Northern District of Ohio, Steven M. Dettelbach, confirmed the indictment against Nettles.
According to Dettelbach, if convicted, Nettles could face sentencing determined by the court, which will consider his criminal record, role in the offense, and characteristics of the violation. Regardless, any sentence will not exceed the statutory maximum, often less than that maximum.
The investigation into Nettles’ latest crime was a joint effort between the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Toledo Police Department. Assistant United States Attorney Noah P. Hood is leading the prosecution in this case.
It’s important to note that an indictment is merely a charge and does not indicate guilt. Nettles is entitled to a fair trial where the government must prove his guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
NETTLES, whose prior felony conviction remains sealed, now faces serious charges for carrying a firearm in violation of federal law. His case serves as a stark reminder of the strict consequences for repeat offenders who continue their criminal activities after release from previous convictions.
The grimy details of this case underscore the ongoing struggle against gun violence and the commitment of local and federal agencies to enforce the law without mercy for those who flout it.
