A federal indictment has been handed down against 39-year-old Stuart J. Boykin of Akron, Ohio, for his alleged involvement in a shocking case of drug trafficking and firearms possession.
Boykin is accused of possessing fentanyl and heroin with the intent to distribute on November 19, 2015, and of being a felon in possession of firearms and ammunition on the same date. The indictment, returned by a federal grand jury, charges Boykin in two counts.
According to Steven M. Dettelbach, U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Ohio, the indictment alleges that Boykin possessed fentanyl and heroin with the intent to distribute on November 19, 2015, and that he was in possession of firearms and ammunition on the same date.
Boykin’s alleged crimes are linked to a prior conviction in Summit County Court of Common Pleas Case No. CR-1995-06-1635A, where he was convicted of felonious assault on November 20, 1995.
The investigation preceding the indictment was conducted by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Linda H. Barr.
Boykin’s sentence, should he be convicted, will be determined by the court after review of factors unique to the case, including his prior criminal records and his role in the offense.
An indictment is only a charge and is not evidence of guilt. A defendant is entitled to a fair trial in which it will be the government’s burden to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
