A 42-year-old Council Bluffs man has been sentenced to 66 months in prison for being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm. Alan Scott Lawton, 42, was sentenced on February 15, 2023, in connection with a crime that occurred on June 8, 2022.

According to court documents, Lawton was observed putting items in a storage unit on June 8, 2022, before fleeing in his Jeep. He drove through a security fence and took off on foot, leading to a short chase before his apprehension. During the chase, a loaded pistol that had been reported stolen was found along Lawton’s flight path.
