Alehandros Medina, Felon in Possession of Firearm, Massachusetts 2016
BOSTON – In a shocking turn of events, a Southbridge man was sentenced to 5 years in prison and 3 years of supervised release for being a felon in possession of a firearm, distributing drugs, and attempted money laundering.
Alehandros Medina, 25, was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Timothy S. Hillman for his crimes, which date back to 2014. Medina pleaded guilty in October 2016 to distribution of cocaine, ketamine, MDMA (commonly referred to as ecstasy) and Methylone; being a felon in possession of a firearm; and attempted money laundering.
The investigation revealed that Medina sold cocaine, MDMA, Methylone, and ketamine to an undercover federal agent on several occasions between November 2014 and October 2015, while on state probation for multiple charges of possession with intent to distribute controlled substances.
In August 2015, Medina traveled to Oregon and was stopped by police who confiscated approximately $22,000 from Medina that he intended to use to purchase marijuana. Later that day, federal agents arrested Medina in Southbridge as he was delivering cocaine to an undercover agent. Agents seized cocaine and a loaded .38 caliber revolver from Medina’s residence.
Acting U.S. Attorney William D. Weinreb praised the efforts of law enforcement agencies in bringing Medina to justice, including the Drug Enforcement Administration, New England Field Division, and the Southbridge Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Greg A. Friedholm of Weinreb’s Worcester Branch Office prosecuted the case.
The case serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of drug trafficking and the consequences of committing crimes while on probation. As the community continues to struggle with the effects of opioid addiction, it is imperative that those responsible for perpetuating this crisis are held accountable.
