Honduran National Indicted for Reentry of Deported Alien in Louisiana
In a recent indictment, Alex Saul Hernandez-Perez, a 33-year-old Honduran national, has been charged with reentry of a removed alien in Louisiana.
According to court documents, Hernandez-Perez, an illegal alien, was found in St. Bernard Parish on or around October 21, 2024. He had previously been deported to Honduras on June 13, 2019.
Reentry of a removed alien is a serious offense, punishable by up to two years of imprisonment, up to a $250,000 fine, up to three years of supervised release, and a $100 mandatory special assessment fee.
U.S. Attorney Duane A. Evans announced the indictment, emphasizing that an indictment is merely a charge and that the guilt of the defendant must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.
Assistant United States Attorney Spiro G. Latsis of the General Crimes Unit will oversee the prosecution. The U.S. Customs and Border Protection is credited with investigating this matter.
Hernandez-Perez’s indictment serves as a reminder of the consequences of reentering the country after being deported. If convicted, he faces a significant amount of time behind bars and a substantial fine.
The case highlights the importance of enforcing immigration laws and holding individuals accountable for their actions.
