Defendant Sentenced for Firearms Trafficking Conspiracy
A 23-year-old Maryland man has been sentenced to 10 months of incarceration for his role in a firearms trafficking conspiracy that took place in West Virginia.
Alexander Michael Ryan Myers, of Hagerstown, Maryland, pleaded guilty in November 2021 to one count of “Conspiracy.” Myers admitted to working with others to purchase, possess, and transfer firearms to persons who couldn’t legally purchase or possess firearms.
The crimes took place in March and April 2021 in Berkeley County and elsewhere. Myers was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Gina M. Groh after Assistant U.S. Attorney Lara Omps-Botteicher prosecuted the case on behalf of the government. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives investigated the case.
According to the indictment, Myers worked with others to purchase and transfer firearms to individuals who were prohibited from owning firearms. The indictment did not specify the exact number of firearms involved in the conspiracy.
Myers is currently serving his sentence at a federal correctional facility. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) played a key role in the investigation, which led to Myers’ arrest and subsequent conviction.
The case serves as a reminder of the importance of enforcing laws related to firearms trafficking and the consequences of engaging in such activities.
